We don't think Windows8 will run on this! (click to view the video)We always try to angle the piece towards something useful from the web design industry or business in general but today after a few little incidents that have happened over the past week I want to focus on the humble Windows Operating System (which incidentally was launched 28 years ago). Hopefully this will give you a few tips that will make your life easier.

I am quite amazed/depressed/confused as to how  some of the most useful functions on the modern PC are unknown to a large percentage of users.

So here is a quick test.

In Windows what happens when you press F1, don't try it yet!
In Windows what happens when you press Ctrl then P, don't try it yet!
In Windows what happens when you press Alt then Tab, don't try it yet!

So there are three keyboard shortcuts as they are called that I use all the time. If these did not exist someone would invent them because they are so useful. It is like driving a car, if no one told you about the clutch you would be able to use the car but it would be very difficult and you may just give up.

If you have no idea what these keystrokes do please try them out, they are very straightforward and if you are stuck take a look at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/126449 or email me and I will explain what they do.

I hope this little bit of advice will open up the wonderful world of the PC and encourage you to read a bit more on this very complicated piece of engineering.

By the way, the customer involved in one of these incidents stated and I quote "You need to know a secret Masonic style code to use the system then?". I suppose he is correct, except to join you do not need to be invited, no one black balls you, no rituals involved etc... All you do is press F1 and the whole world of the PC is there for you to explore so not similar at all really.

Have a good month.
