April 2012
This week I wanted to talk about something that is perhaps a little controversial. It has little relevance with TCRM business, but since it is a problem I see every day I am going to talk about it anyway.
The staff working in TCRM Corporate Headquarters are a variety of ages. Gareth remembers his first video recorder. Andrea claims she remembers her first Colour TV (2007 we believe. She's from Porth). And I must admit I have a vague memory of seeing Noah's ark. Vanessa however is what we call ageless. Therefore, we all have different views of current technology.
We often have discussions that get quite contentious, as age often affects your outlook and technology is often hotly debated. As someone who has worked with technology all my working life, I often see hardware and software that is extremely impressive, but I wonder is it really that useful or even good for society as a whole?
I have a niece who will text her friends a dozen times a day even though she lives a few doors away from most of them. We see people with 11 million twitter followers hanging on their every word. This is almost a God like power. I do sometimes get wrapped up in the technology as well but it seems that all life must be is a balance. Having a few real friends is more important than thousands of Facebook friends. Having an occasional conversation is far more important than texting your nearest and dearest every day. We do use emails a lot and Facebook, twitter and texts etc. but I would rather meet people or at the least talk to them over the phone if it's possible.
So, my profound conclusion of the week is - if you can, stay real not virtual.
Hasta luego mi amigos.
