In 1964 F.S.Voaden made a momentous decision to uproot his family to move to Carmarthen where he took up a managerial and directorial position with Hughes & John. In 1971 the company was sold and subsequently acquired by A. Jones. It was at this auspicious time that Fred Voaden decided to establish his own business opening under the name of Amman Shoes in Ammanford, a relatively quiet, rural town which had now attracted a retail outlet of distinction where service and quality were the defining standards of an all but lost bygone era.
